J. Michael Smith, M.D., is a fellowship-trained sports medicine surgeon at the Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Center who performs the latest minimally invasive orthopedic procedures with shoulder, hip and knee arthroscopy. He also has an extensive background in open shoulder reconstruction and joint replacement procedures for the shoulder, hip and knee. Dr. Michael Smith earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. Following medical school, he completed his orthopedic surgery residency training at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. He elected to pursue additional training after residency by completing a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he served as a team physician for the University of Virginia men’s football and basketball teams, including the 2019 NCAA men’s basketball national championship team.
