Patients in need of specialized care for sports-related bone, joint and muscle conditions are encouraged to call (816) 233-9888 to schedule an appointment. Dr. Michael Smith is available to see patients at the practice’s St. Joseph office at 3107 Frederick Ave., Suite B.
As a fellowship-trained sports medicine specialist, Dr. Michael Smith has surgical expertise in the latest minimally invasive techniques in shoulder, hip and knee arthroscopy. He also has an extensive background in open shoulder reconstruction and joint replacement procedures for the shoulder, hip and knee.
“I am proud to now partner with my son in providing the exceptional care needed to keep our community healthy and active,” says Dr. Daniel Smith, board-certified orthopedic surgeon at the Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Center. “He brings with him a wealth of knowledge regarding advanced techniques and procedures in sports medicine and arthroscopy, and we are thankful to have him on our team.”
Dr. Michael Smith earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. Following medical school, he completed his orthopedic surgery residency training at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. He elected to pursue additional training after residency by completing a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he served as a team physician for the University of Virginia men’s football and basketball teams, including the 2019 NCAA men’s basketball national championship team.
“From a young age, I was able to witness firsthand the profound impact that can be made in peoples' lives by thoughtful orthopedic care and surgical decision making,” says Dr. Michael Smith. “It is a privilege to be an orthopedic surgeon and to provide this service to the community I grew up in, and I look forward to helping patients throughout the region get back to doing what they love to do.”
